The consultants working for GBC held an online exhibition to update the public on their proposals for the site infrastructure: a video recording is here (go to “Sixth Online Public Exhibition: Our Emerging Proposals Thursday 22nd October, 2020”).
Our comments are here. We think the proposals look promising for cycling, including a branch of the Sustainable Movement Corridor through the site, a new riverside path, a new bridge across the Wey, possible surface improvements to the towpath and NCN223 through Riverside Park, and a cycle path round the new SANG nature reserve. We will be pressing to ensure these are not traded away as cost savings measures downstream. Also, we note that claims that residents will switch away from cars to active travel will only be credible if there are good cycle links to key destinations such as the town centre, station, University, Hospital etc.
