New shared use pavement opened on A25 Ladymead outside Wickes store

The works to provide a shared use path alongside the A25/Woodbridge Road have been completed. The pavement has been widened from the entry road for the Wickes store across the bridge over the River Wey to Woodbridge Meadows. This is a great improvement, although crossing the entrance to Woodbridge Meadows still needs care.

Isn’t this just the last part of a dedicated shared path from Boxgrove roundabout in the East all the way to the Cathedral and Egerton roundabouts in the West?

Woodbridge Meadows must be the only junction without dedicated cycle crossings, in fact, any traffic lights. Bit of an oversight in the SMCs.

A moot point. SMC (West) (RSCH> Station) and SMC (East) (Along Ladymead east from Woodbridge Road traffic lights) are defined and being implemented, but as I understand it, the precise route of the SMC through the centre is not fixed yet.. Initial plans showed it coming along Woodbridge Road (not Woodbridge Meadows) (see link from SMC section in our ‘Activities’ page). This new stretch links to the other recently implemented stretch beside the A25 along to the Cathedral Business Park. Whether it’s classed as part of the SMC or not, I’m not sure, although that matters for funding, to the user it’s probably immaterial. Personally, I would like to see the path improved for shared use all the way along beside the A3 to the Uni: it’s very narrow and busy. The proposed bridge over the railway to the Uni from the Business Park is another opportunity. An additional factor is the (imminent?) experimental one way operation on Walnut Tree Close/Woodbridge Meadows, which it is hoped will reduce motor traffic entering/leaving Woodbridge Meadows.
