As posted on June 9th, Guildford Borough Council asked for views on its “Local Plan: Development Management Policies – Issues and Preferred Options” document. This includes a number of topics, one of which is “Achieving a comprehensive Guildford Borough cycle network” (Policy ID10, Question 37).
As well as the network proposed in the recent Guildford Cycle Routes Feasibility Report, the consultation includes as evidence SCC’s Guildford Local Cycling Plan (2015) which defined a much less dense, therefore less costly, network. On the other hand, the SCC plan also includes routes across the wider Borough, not just Guildford town. The preferred option proposed that the outputs of these two evidenced sources could be combined, then referenced in a new policy with the resulting plan(s) for Guildford Borough cycle network improvements added to the Policies Map for the Development Plan. The alternative option was to stick with just the SCC plan.
As you would expect we expressed strong support for the preferred option. We also commented on other Policies, notably the River Wey Corridor and Parking Standards.
