G-BUG put a question to the SCC/GBC Joint Committee at its meeting on 17 March about whether the Committee would support a pilot mini-Holland scheme in Guildford, and apply to DfT to be one of 12 local authorities for investment under the scheme proposed in Gear Change report (if that materialises).
You can see the video of the discussion here https://surreycc.public-i.tv/…/webcast_interactive/547824 – from minute 0:57 to minute 1:10, with contributions by GBC Councillor John Rigg (Chair), Steve Howard (Transport Strategy Project Manager, SCC), GBC Councillor George Potter, and SCC Councillor Matt Furniss (SCC Cabinet Member for Transport).
A written summary of the discussion is here https://mycouncil.surreycc.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=31558 (go to Question 2). There was broad support for (or at least no overt opposition to) constructively considering the proposition. The need for wide community consultation was stressed. The vehicle for this process will be the creation of the Local Cycling and Infrastructure Walking Plan (LCWIP) for Guildford, which is scheduled to begin in September. I know that sounds like ‘yet another consultation’, but Dft will only fund schemes which are embodied in the LCWIP, so it is a hoop we have to jump through!
